The Fog

2025 HSC Visual Arts Body of Work

Artist Statement

My body of work critiques the dehumanisation the masses are subject to under corporate capitalism where workers are treated as merely cogs in a machine. Drawing on Marc Augé’s concept of non-places, these places epitomise the transactional, anonymous spaces symptomatic of late stage capitalist society.

Through the use of blurred figures I abstract people from their individual identities, reducing them to roles, stripped of their passion, identity and autonomy. This abstraction of individuality represents a critique of the system that marginalises workers while demanding loyalty. My imagery visualises this collective erasure, making their systemically sanctioned invisibility visible.
